From Doodler to Drawing Diva in 30 days with May Tobias’ Doodles and Daydreams

Illustrator and children’s book writer, May Tobias, shares her passion and craft through her newest book Doodles and Daydreams. Set to be launched on May 19 at National Book Store Quezon Avenue, Doodles and Daydreams is a book that promises to transform a simple doodler to a drawing diva in just a month.

With daily exercises designed to make your drawing hand become accustomed to varying strokes and pressure, this is the book for doodlers who want to take their dreams to the next level, as well as for anyone who simply wants to draw.

“I know how daunting a blank page is, so I designed the exercises in this book to make it less so for you, by making drawing more fun and less intimidating. I’ll guide you and give you some tips and tricks to diva up your doodles into awesome drawings,” says Tobias on how to use the book.

The doodle and drawing exercises in the book also focus on three things: building muscle memory, developing a critical eye, and developing a habit of art as play. The book also features a drawing diva toolkit, which lists and explains each tool you would need for the journey. Each day brings a new challenge as Tobias has activities from line tracing exercises and contour drawing, to learning to draw food and making your own henna hand decorations.

“When I first picked up a paint brush, May Tobias was one of the early few who offered me tips, references and encouragement – remotely, via Facebook and Instagram. Now, this book is just like having May as my teacher at every brush stroke. Clear and effective, written and illustrated to make art fun and not-too-scary a journey,” says Socky Pitargue, founder of PC & V Communications, Inc.

May Tobias is a children’s book writer and illustrator. In a former life, she worked for several advertising agencies variously as storyboard artist, art director, and creative director. In yet another former life, she taught illustration and design at the U.P. College of Fine Arts and was an art director for the University of the Philippines Press. She brings to this book experiences and insights on doodling and drawing collected from advertising, publishing, the academe, as well as being a work-from-home artist-mommy.
