MULTI-AWARDED writer, historian, literary critic, and author Dr. Resil Mojares is one of this year’s roster of National Artists for Literature.
Mojares has authored books on Philippine history, politics, and literature, including books under Anvil Publishing like House of Memory: Essays published in 1997 and Isabelo’s Archive published in 2013. His other works include Origins and Rise of the Filipino Novel, The War Against the Americans, and write-ups about distinguished figures, such as Pedro Paterno, Isabelo delos Reyes, and Trinidad Pardo de Tavera. He has won several National Book Awards from the Manila Critics Circle, and founded the Cebuano Studies Center, a library and research center dedicated to Cebuano culture and history.
The Order of National Artists of the Philippines is awarded to Filipinos who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts. It is jointly administered by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), and conferred by the Government of the Philippines upon recommendation by both institutions.
